Mysore is a historic display in ancient Hindu mythology. It has achieved an important cultural growth throughout the year.

Mysore is one of the states in the first India, along with the Mysore district and headquarters of the Mysore Division. To the southwest lies the Bangalore region, approximately 146 kilometers away.

Mysore derives its name from an anglicized version of Mahishuru. This means the abode of Mahisha. Mysore means "Mahishasura" a demon from Hindu mythology. Apart from this, Mysore is famous for its festivals and celebrations during the Dasara festival. During the festival, the city is visited by many tourists from from other countries. The History of Mysore
Mysore has a history Comprehensive and interesting. It used to be a monarchist, called the Kingdom of Mysore. But in 1947, was revoked by the Wodeyar dynasty. The church was built in honor of St. Philomena. Its construction was inspired by the Cathedral Cologne in Germany, and has a neo-Gothic design.

Chamundi Hills is famous throughout the world because of the panoramic view of the city at the top. Tourists want to reach the top to see this amazing view.

Tourist attractions include the zoo in Mysore, Karanji and Kukkarahalli Lakes and the Railroad Museum, Museo Regional de Historia Natural Resources, Oriental Research Institute and the Folklore Museum.

Another must see destination in Mysore is what Over Krishnara dam that is connected to the Brindavan Gardens. Here you can witness an impressive musical fountain display every night.

Demographics
According to the 2001 census, the city of Mysore, has a population totaling 799,228 people. Of whom 406,363 are male and the remaining 392,865 are women. With this number, Mysore is considered the second largest city of Karnataka.

The gender ratio is 967 females for every 1000 boys. Population density is 6223.55 people per square kilometer. In the total population, 76.76 percent are Hindus, 19 percent are Muslim and four percent, 2.84 percent are Christian.
