Good Gothic/Dark movies?

this will probably be a hard one, but does anyone know of and gothic movies that is not by Tim Burton, that is not the crow, underworld, or twilight? I’m looking for something more independent and unheard of.

Bram Stoker’s Dracula is a good one.

Here’s the Wikipedia information on it.

One of the most popular film genre is the horror film, and is also one of the oldest. Cinema pioneer Georges Melies made events supernatural theme of many of his short silent films, his most notable Le Manoir du diable, or devil's house in 1896, which some consider the first horror movie.

The monster of the first horror film in a feature film, per se, it was Quasimodo, the hunchback of Notre Dame. Before Wegener's Golem, in 1915, and Robert Wiener The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, and the first vampire movie, Nosferatu.

Lon Chaney Sr. was the first American horror movie star, playing the cables, both in The Hunchback of Notre Dame in 1923 and the monster in 1925. He is best known, however, for his role in the 1925 version of The Phantom of the Opera. In the 1930s, gothic horror films became popular in Hollywood. Among them in 1931 Dracula, starring Bela Lugosi, The Mummy, in 1932, and one of the most controversial horror movies ever made, Freaks, on the basis of Spurs story of Ted Robbins. How controversial. So much so that the study burned at least thirty minutes from the filming of movies and then disowned it completely.

The horror film genre expanded in the 1950s and 60s to include films shown from outside threats, such as mutations, aliens, and zombies. This was also the era of 3D glasses and the technique of electroshock perceptual used in theater audiences during demonstrations of the movie The Tingler.

In 1964 the Production Code of America fell by the road, and focuses on the occult and gore films began being produced, starting in 1968 Rosemarys Baby 1973 The Exorcist and The Omen in 1976. The first adaptation of a Stephen King novel, Carrie, was also released in 1976.

In the 1980s, the horror movie genre was the inclusion of films as Nightmare on Elm Street, starring Robert Englund, Friday, thirteen, Childs Play, and Creepshow, all of which led to several sequels. This trend continued in the decade 1990, and the tendency of self-reflective horror films like Carrie, then and in such films as Interview with the Vampire, based on the popular Anne Rice novel of the same name. self-parody films such as Scream trilogy were popular too.

Modern horror films place from an emphasis on blood and torture their predecessors, as evidenced by the success of the Saw movies. Remakes of classic horror films like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Dawn of the Dead also won fans in their own right. The horror film genre is one that is both timeless and evolving.
